317/317L Stainless Steel
UNS S31700/S31703
Grade 317, is primarily comprised of 18% to 20% chromium and 11% to 15% nickel along with trace amounts of carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon and balanced with iron. Features of 317 include increased strength, crevice and pitting corrosion resistance in acidic and phosphoric atmospheres, higher tensile strength and a higher stress-to-rupture ratio. With respect to cold working of 317, stamping, shearing, drawing can be successfully performed. In addition, annealing can be performed between 1850 F and 2050 F, followed by rapid cooling. All common hot working methods are possible with 317, between 2100 F and 2300 F.
